OUR HISTORY
While working as a senior project manager for a large electrical contractor, Electrical Prefab Systems’ (EPS) co-founder Bruce Phillips had a large need for a manufactured wiring solution. After extensive research, he was disappointed with what the industry offered. Using his decades of hands-on experience in the electrical trade, and his formal education in manufacturing engineering and design, Bruce initiated development of new engineering methodologies and components that would provide solutions for the real world of electrical construction.
While working to develop solutions that would work well on any project type, Bruce invented several products to enhance his newly created system. During the development phase of the new Universal Box Bracket, Bruce began working with Guy Hansen at AW-Engineering, a large metal stamping company in southern California.
In late 2006, a large national brand manufacturer in the electrical products industry, became aware of Bruce’s new system and communicated that they were motivated to market the system throughout the United States. This publically-traded company suggested that Bruce form an independent prefab company. Intrigued by their offer, and needing a partner, Bruce approached Guy Hansen who quickly agreed to help form the new company. EPS was established in mid-2007 after executing a supply agreement.
Sales for the first full year were almost $3 million. However, in spite of this initial success, EPS’s future was hampered by the compounding levels of margin demanded by the large company it agreed to supply. Even though customers were reporting labor savings of up to 70% by using EPS’s product offerings, much of these savings were not translated into financial gain for the contractor because of these multi-layer margins. Believing it more beneficial to pass the labor savings on directly to its contractor-customers, EPS unilaterally declined to renew its agreement in late 2009. Contractors can now save as much as 40% by dealing direct with EPS as opposed to buying through traditional distribution chains so laden with multiple layers of margin.
Through its affiliation with AW Engineering, EPS has the competitive advantage of sourcing virtually all its support brackets, and its patented Open-Back Box, without need for third-party suppliers. Moreover, everything EPS manufactures is UL-Listed.
EPS’s employees are the key ingredient to its success. With almost no turn-over, every employee is dedicated to our mantra that there is no substitute for providing the absolute best in customer support and service. Our engineers have vast experience in the industry and each has years of expertise earned from “wearing the tools.”
It is the goal of EPS to offer the highest quality and most productive products and systems in the industry – at the lowest cost. With our direct-to-contractor method of distribution, we eliminate unnecessary layers of mark-up otherwise common in the electrical construction market. EPS has full confidence in its systems and has scores of successful installations throughout the United States. We stand behind our products and systems with an iron-clad satisfaction guarantee. We are not motivated to make one sale but, rather, to become a strategic partner in our client’s long-term success.
